Is Theo the answer?
In 2000 the Red Sox hadn't won a world series for over 80 years. Young Gm Theo epstien was about to change that. Now Theo is with the Cubs a team that hasn't won for over 50 years. The question: Is Theo the answer. In 2001 Theo picked up David Ortiz, who at trhe time was a 23 year old slugger who had struggled as a twin, nobody saw Ortiz becoming "Big Papi". years later the Red Sox won a world series, breaking the 86 year old curse. Epstien also brought in star Manny Ramirez, Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett to win that year. One criticized move was the Beckett trade. Josh Beckett for Hanley Ramirez. In the end it paid off. Epstien and the sox lost Ramirez and Shilling with in 5 years but the signings of John Lackey, J.D Drew and Mike Cameron were suppose to do the Job but all three failed in 2010. Cameron and Drew struggled with injuriews while Angels all star John Lackey just lagged all year. The Sox failed to make the playoffs with a roster that included Ortiz, Pedroa, Youkiliss, Beckett and Beltre. Two mistakes he made in the time period between 2008 and 2010 were signing Marco Scutaro and Bobby Jenks. Jenks was a below average aging injury prone closer and Scutaro was a utility man coming off a career year. The Sox and all of there fans were ready for playoffs!! Epstien signed all stars Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez but lost all star Adrian Beltre. The Sox made a push but a HUGE september meltdown took the sox right out of the playoffs. Epstien was gone. Theo now a member of the Cubs must find his "big Papi". unlike his time with Boston he is coming to a team with less. He already lost Aramis Ramirez to Milwakuee and owes the red sox something (maybe Garza?). One thing is for sure, he has his work cut out for him.
