Eastern Conference playoffs
By this time last year the celtics were a run down NBA team led by Shaq and Rondo, Not anymore a healthy KG had changed that, the Celtics have become a force to reckon with.
Last years NBA MVP Derek Rose missed over 20 games with injury and the Bulls will not be able to be the best without him. The other eastern powerhouses are injured too. For the first time since 2008 the celtics are healthy and the rest of the east isn't. NY lost Jeremy Lin to injury and a not so healthy Baron Davis and Amare Stoudimire takes them out of contention. The Knicks also lost head coach mike Dantioni mid season and may not make the playoffs. The Miami Heat have injuries to deal with (LeBron, Wade) and the Hawks lost Al Horford at the seasons start and cant beat the celtics with a banged up Horford. The NJ Nets lost Brook Lopez and shut him down due to a ankle injury and fell out of contention even with stars Deron Williams and Gerald Wallace. The Bucks had issues with Stephen Jackson and that resulted in a mid season trade then they lost Bogut to a broken ankle. The Orlando Magic Lost Dwight Howard (Back) and Hedo Turkolugo (Cheek) and fell apart. Dwight's injury may be really bad. Its a herniated disc in his back similar to Baron Davis of the Knicks. My injury consultant , the manager of woody's warriors fantasy baseball, football and Basketball teams (he is a well respected fantasy insider and has multiple championships to his credit) had this to say about the injury: " Howard will regret not getting that big contract this is the second worse injury a big man can receive, he is now damaged goods", he also said "only a foot injury like Kevin Mchale or Yao Ming can be worse and more painful to run on." Despite the celtics taking a number of injuries this season Doc Rivers has moved KG to center and he is carrying the team.(17PPG, 8REB.) This is what their post season depth looks like:
Center: Kevin Garnett Greg Stiemsa Ryan Hollins
PF: Brandon Bass Jajaun Johnson Sean Williams
SF: Paul Pierce Mickeal Pietrus Marquis Daniels
SG: Avery Bradley Ray Allen Sasha Pavolvic
PG: Rajon Rondo Keyon Dooling Etwaun Moore
with Jermaine Oneal, Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green all out for the season.
Meanwhile the Boston Bruins battle super star Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitols. The series is tied at 2-2 but the B's have home court advantage for the next two games which could be the determining factor. Thomas Vokoun, Washington's main goalie, was a pre season acquisition but has helped the team in so many ways. The caps are a solid all around team though thier offense is potent with a super star trio of Alex Semin, Alex Ovechkin and Nicholas Backstrom. Dennis Wideman, a former bruins star defense man, has bounced around to Florida and Washington but is a perfect fit for Washington as he is a elite offensive defender.
